As I mentioned in a previous Studio Notes, I’m currently participating in a generative writing workshop and have created this new Writing Portals section to house my creative freewrites. In this short exercise, I was invited to “deform prior forms”, recreating and inhabiting an existing text in an attempt to create new meanings. I picked Adam & Eve.
Snake Mother lived inside the Garden of Eden with her groom, Adam, who was also the first man. Her body was the landscape, her breasts mountains, pregnant belly mound, and womb cave. As above. So below. Her body was the body of the world encircling Serpent, the Milky Way, the cosmic mind behind all occurrences. No beginning, no end. A womb is a tomb is a womb is a tomb. A portal, a place of dissolution.
In the Garden of Eden, sun-kissed and naked, Snake Mother and Adam felt no shame. At night, they played hide and seek, and the first man searched for his bride in subterranean realms, venturing deep inside the earth, probing its core. For Snake Mother ruled the Underworld, and she liked playing hard to get. Adam crawled through tunnels, burrowing like an animal, animated by a heat only Snake Mother's writhing body could quench. He crawled through narrow walls, the strength of his desire tested at every turn. Burning strong.
The first man found Snake Mother in the innermost chamber, reclining on a throne suspended over the Great Abyss. Red mouth, pink tongue, luscious curves, soft scales glowing dazzling darkness underneath her bridal veil. She spoke to him in the Voice of Silence, calling him to her lap, parting her legs, her hips, her lips. Eat from my fruit, and your eyes will be opened, and you will be like Me, knowing good and evil. And so Adam did, and the veil was lifted.
Skin to skin, no skin, melting into each other, cleaving to one another, one flesh. Entwined bodies pulsing, devouring one another, consuming flesh, One Flesh. Two poles become one, eternity lures its prey, and tightens its grip. There is no escaping Reality. Thunder and lightning; a revelation of epic proportions breaks through Adam's skull, and in a flash, his eyes are opened, and he knows Himself to be the totality of heaven and hell, the One and the Many. Snake Mother. Adam. Woman. Man. Ouroboros. God. Two bodies breathing ecstasy into Oneness. And it was very good.
At sunrise, cheeks still flushed, Snake Mother and Adam returned to the Garden of Eden, husband and wife. The Milky Way glowed wise in the sky above as the Great Serpent slithered away, back into the Underworld. Venus, the Morning Star, rose over the horizon, and Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all things.
I love this!
